Meeting the needs of all students

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Wilcannia Forbes work within a model of inclusive education which supports all students with disabilities and additional needs. The Catholic Education Office is committed to providing opportunities for students to reach their potential.  Our Learning Support framework ensures all students receive the support they need to successfully access and participate in education, and achieve as learners.

Additional Needs personnel and resources are provided to every school to assist in meeting the diverse needs of students. School staff consult with individual students and their families to understand their needs, and to determine the adjustments required. Staff work collaboratively with families to develop and implement personalised plans.

The Catholic Education Office works with schools through a consultative model, providing advice and support in developing and delivering programs and intervention. Schools are provided with professional learning opportunities to build teacher capacity. Support is provided to schools by CEWF on a systemic level, with services provided in the following areas:

  • Behaviour support

  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

High Potential and Gifted Education

God’s love for each individual is reflected in a variety of gifts and talents. Our diocesan community nurtures and shares the gifts and talents of all students by providing optimum opportunities for all to reach their full potential by:

  • developing the whole person;
  • encouraging the pursuit of excellence; and
  • celebrating the gifts of each student.

Exceptionally able and high potential students are supported through an inclusive classroom learning environment that recognises diverse learning needs and provides depth and complexity through stimulating, flexible and student centred learning across all areas of the curriculum.

Students are also provided with authentic and purposeful learning opportunities to work individually and collaboratively through personalised learning projects in Literacy, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and the Creative Arts focusing on student interest and development in:

  • creativity;
  • digital technologies;
  • computational thinking; and
  • problem-solving.
